THE HISTORY OF BURNS HOUSE
The deeds to Burns House date from 1793 when it was owned by the British Crown. The first house was built by the British Army and was probably occupied by an officer.

In 1813, the house was burned to the ground, along with most buildings in the town, by American forces fleeing from a British counterattack during the war of 1812-1814. The existing house was built in 1818 as part of the reconstruction of the town.
In the 1830's and 1840's the house was used as an inn. Burns House was given its name by Joseph Burns who bought the house in 1887. The present owners purchased the house in 1997. In its present incarnation as a Bed and Breakfast, Burns House continues to provide hospitality to visitors as it did when it was an inn nearly 200 years ago.

Today the Burns House is what many people picture as a perfect bed and breakfast - white clapboard house, white picket fence with gate, and open two level verandah. Inside wide planked wood floors gleam, and there are touches of brass in the rooms
